AGM Review
With nearly forty people turning out for the Annual General Meeting in January, the year got off to a flying start. We welcomed several new members and two new members joining the Committee. I’m sure George and Avril will soon make a positive contribution.
Barry suggested that we should set up a group to study the Industrial Archaeology of the village and its surroundings. We followed up this suggestion at our committee meeting and formed a group under the leadership of Les. We will publish details of their progress on this site later.
There was some discussion about where we should go for our annual coach outing. This year we have chosen the Silverstone Racing Weekend to go away so we shall need to avoid that area. In the end we have chosen to go to Portsmouth. We plan to leave Brixworth at 0800 hrs returning between 2000 and 2100 hrs. Tickets are already selling very well at £15 each. This year we have hired a smaller coach with more leg room and comfort. We have also taken our business to another coach company Smiths of Market Harborough who comes highly recommended by our Treasurer Deni. In addition we are offering a group ticket to see HMS Victory, Mary Rose, HMS Warrior and the Royal Naval Museum all for £5. We shall book these well in advance to ensure that we can get a good time slot for viewing Victory which is bound to be very popular in July.
Our first meeting after the AGM saw nearly fifty members enjoying a talk on the Civil War and in particular the Battle of Naseby from Julie Wooding. This was an excellent presentation and very informative. Our next meeting on March 15 is on the subject of coins. I can never get enough.
Meanwhile I am told that the filters in the Village Hall air conditioning system have now been cleared. This should reduce the noise a bit. We set out the chairs in a curve at our last meeting as this seemed more informal than the straight rows we had used in the past. Most people seemed to prefer this arrangement.
