August Update

I’m pleased to hear that the recent visit to Rothwell was a successful occasion and everyone who was there had an enjoyable evening. I gather the weather was good on the Thursday, which is more than can be said for me and Mandy on our holiday in Northumberland as we had a day and night of heavy rain.

The next member’s meeting ‘Food Through the Ages’ is in the Village Hall on 16 September. Keep an eye on your e-mail inbox during the next few weeks for more information about this ‘Historical Gourmet’ evening.

A reminder that the BHS Exhibition in The Heritage Centre in Church Street is now closed until 18 September to make way for the Ninth Northamptonshire Open Studios Exhibition presented by local artists Rachelle Roberts on 28/29/30 August from 11.00am to 5.00pm and Mandy Dawkins (BHS’s archivist) on 4/5/11/12 September, also 11.00am to 5.00pm. Open Studios is Northamptonshire’ s largest visual arts event with approximately 200 local artists exhibiting and demonstrating their work in venues throughout the county. Mandy will have a wide selection of her work on display including silk, oil, watercolour and porcelain painting. Admission is free so why not pop along with a relative, friend or neighbour’ (or all three), to see what Rachelle and Mandy have have produced for this year’s exhibition - I know you will not be disappointed. Please contact Mandy on: mandy_dawkins@yahoo.co.uk if you require more information. Two other Brixworth artists will also have their studios open: Peter Kottler in Rookery Cottage, Church Street from 10.00an to 6.00pm every day from 28 August to 12 September and Claira Connolly 5 Broad Street every day except Monday from 28 August to 12 September - 10.00am to 4.00pm, Tues - Fri 10.00am to 1.00pm
Best wishes
John

Secretarial update

Having spoken to several BHS members who visited Caen I gather the week-end was a huge success and another European trip next year, possibly staying in Ostend, is being considered - well done Pauline - I think you may have started something that has the potential of becoming an annual event and unique to BHS!!
I was sorry to have missed the trip due to a ‘previous engagement’ - five days with my ‘birthday wife’ in Paris - I think our ferries passed each other somewhere between Dover and Calais on 26 July.

Many thanks to those of you who have already let me know you will/will not be visiting Rothwell on 19 August. To remind you that the guided tour arranged by Rothwell History Society starts from the Market House on the Market Square in Rothwell at 7.15pm. If you haven’t already done so please let me know by 12 August if you will/will not be taking part.
